Moving to Houston, Texas
HOUSTON!... finally a place I can call "home" and not be living out of my suitcase! Right after my vacation to Brazil, I packed all the essential things at my parents house to move into a room at a friend's place. All my summer/spring clothes, desk, full length mirror, and my bed. That's all I need! Seems simple, but WHY DO I HAVE SO MUCH CLOTHES AND SHOES?! WHY CAN'T I LIVE A SIMPLE LIFE?! UGH. It was a stressful week trying to pack all my things so quickly. It was also really scary driving a giant U-Haul truck over 250 miles alone, but I didn't die nor did I kill anyone... Success! My new position started May 7th. My new team seems to be competent and I know I can learn a lot from them. I am really going to try to work very hard to soak up everything from my team members and go forth head first full speed!!!
There are so many new and exciting things happening. I won't be going anywhere for a full month, but the upcoming year will be crazy! The Netherlands in June for 2.5 weeks, Netherlands again in August for 1.5 weeks, Singapore in September for one week, and Cairo, Egypt in October for two weeks. But seeing my travel schedule, It really is nice to finally have a place to settle down between my travels and just relax.
I've been having a lot of fun living in Houston seeing old Dallas friends, getting to know my roommates better, making new friends in Houston, hanging out with my best friend Micah (which I have not been doing very often), meeting old friends from college, meeting new friends from college, seeing friends from work during my training in Mississippi, having Happy Hour Wednesdays, going out to two-step at a cowboy bar, celebrating birthdays... I am constantly meeting people, going out, and eating delicious food! These are all things I have missed while I am traveling!
I can finally have a normal schedule to regularly exercise, cook healthy meals, and take care of myself, physically and mentally. Don't get me wrong, I love my travels and being able to meet new people overseas, but it is also nice to just sit down for once and put "me" first.
I can't wait to see what other Houston adventures I go on the rest of the year I will be living here, how working with my new group will be, and who else I will meet here in this city!
