Goodbye Shubuta, MS... !

Goodbye Shubuta, MS... !

Today was graduation for this three-month training course in Mississippi… Tomorrow we are driving 8.5 hours to Dallas for another week and a half for some other courses… It was such a happy, yet bittersweet moment while listening to all our instructors as well as the rig crew speak about us. It was a long and hard three months, but I finally made it! I cannot believe that I have been in Shubuta/Laurel, MS for this long already. Boy, does time fly when you’re having fun! These past months have been filled with new friends and new adventures. I have had such an amazing time here in the middle of nowhere Mississippi because I was with such a great group of people. Our groups seriously wrecked havoc in Mississippi.... !! Getting to know everyone in both groups has been an awesome experience for me…

It has been such a blessing to be able to be apart of this. I have learned so much during my training, not only about other people or technical work, but also about myself. I always thought I was shy, but ever since I received this new position, I am continually meeting people and new friends. I now realize that I enjoy getting to know people. To me, it is so interesting to find out about who each person is, what each person likes, the different types of humor and knowledge each person brings, etc. I gained so much confidence in myself and in what I know. Larry, my instructor, really taught me to be confident and firm in what I know and believe. He has taught me to be patient, caring, and humble. Even though he has 30+ years of experience in the oil field, he still learns everyday from each one of his students. I have learned a lot about humility working under him…

I am very grateful that my boss sent me to this training because now I feel as if I have value in my company. Throughout the training, I learned a lot of technical information, but I realized that I also knew a lot already. It feels so good to know that I am knowledgeable at my job and that I can help others with what I have learned… I did not achieve top of class marks, but I did end up being in the top 4 people… This is a great accomplishment and I am very proud of what I have achieved and what I have gained coming here. Not only this, I am so grateful to be coming back to my work with new friends from all over the world…

I will miss all the instructors and I will miss the lifestyle that we had; class M-F, hanging out after class, working out, hanging out all weekend, weekend getaways, etc, but I know that I will see everyone again….

Like how I felt after leaving Brunei, it is always so bittersweet to say goodbye. But at least for now, I still have another week in Dallas to prepare myself to say bye to this group. I am actually very excited to get back to Dallas and show everyone my home town (also excited to see my friends. Family, and BRUCE). First thing I am going to eat when I get back will be Pho… I cannot wait!!!!!!!! It is not time, yet, to say goodbye to my friends, but just a goodbye to Mississippi... I do not know if I will ever come back again, but there will always be a little warm spot in my heart for Shubootyy, MS.
