Island Hopping pt 1 - Palau Manukan
Today was a long, long but very eventful and fun filled day!! I'm going to split up my day into two posts since I did so much today. This morning, we woke up nice and early (around 7AM) to make it to the first or secondish ferry speed boat to go island hopping! We started out going to Jesselton Point (ferry boat dock) and looked at the price options for each island as well as the available activities on each island. We decided on going to Manuakan Island and Sapi Island, our day split into two. We decided on parasailing in Manukan and then snorkeling in both Manukan and Sapi Island. For the three of us, it about 450RM or approximately 150USD... SO CHEAP! Our ferry was leaving in about 15 minutes, so the guys went to the convenience store to get bug repellent (mostly for me.. since these damn mosquitos love my Kimchee blood), sun block, and water. I got this noodle & chili chicken combo from this little shop for 5RM... amazingly cheap again (I freaking love Malaysia). The lady who worked there asked me if I was Korean and she said that I was beautiful.. how nice of her :-) tehe
The man from Summer Cruise company told us to go to the waiting point by the port and go to Mr. Bong to get our snorkel/life jackets... when we got there... we had no idea where we were supposed to go, and who the hell Mr. Bong was! So both Dean and Amin were scrambling around trying to figure out what's going on as time was getting closer and closer to 8:35AM (the time the ferry leaves)... I just sat there with all our shit wondering what my food was going to taste like and when I'll be able to eat it. Eventually Mr. Bong with all the snorkel gear showed up. The sanitation in Asia is by no means close to the U.S. That is one thing I really miss about the U.S.... nice clean.. everything. We had to rent the snorkel gear from Mr. Bong's grocery shopping cart... yes.. RENT... I do not even know how many hundreds or thousands of people have put their herpes infested diseased mouths on the snorkel I eventually put in my mouth, but I thought "Fuck it! I'm in Malaysia!"
Even though it was past 8:35AM, we still made it onto the boat... the boat was late, REAL Asian time, I guess. But thank goodness! I was going to be really upset if we didn't make the 8;35AM since I wanted to eat my damn chilli chicken and rice haha. The boat ride was actually very fun! It was a fast speed boat that raced past the waves to all the islands and the scenery was not too bad, sike! IT WAS AWESOME! I loved the scenery especially with my favorite weather, blue skies and sunny.
We first got to Palau Manukan, or Manukan Island. It was such a breathtaking island! The entrance is so beautiful with the wooden bridge above the water. It really reminded me of all those photos of Fiji and Bora Bora I have been saving on my computer. The water was a rich light emerald green and crystal clear! I couldn't wait to get off the damn bridge to actually get onto the beach and get into the water! Sadly enough, though, not only were there sand flies and mosquitos to eat my delicious my Kimchee blood, there were red ants that wanted a bite too. My feet pretty much got destroyed at this beach by all sort of blood sucking bugs.
We started off with parasailing early. I was a bit nervous at first since it seemed like I was going to fly away really fast off the boat, but it really was not that scary. It definitely was not as exciting as I thought it was going to be, but it was a good relaxing thing to do. The view from up there was really nice and the breeze felt so good against my skin. The people driving the boat would purposely slow down so that we would sink into the water and get all wet, and then they would laugh at us... bitches! haha Just kidding. It was a good first parasailing experience. I think if I did it anywhere else, it would not have been as enjoyable due to the lack of scenery. Also, I had an amazing hair style after... pictures below.
After parasailing, we headed back to Manukan Island where I finally got to eat my damn chicken and it was so good. I don't really like sweet and spicy, but this chicken had a sweet chili sauce that was so scrumptious! Me and Dean had a beach photoshoot... sad that I was so fat though.. I wish I was a bit skinnier in my photos, but there was not much I could do. We did get a speedo man in our photos. I was obsessed with speedo man for a while because he looked so funny to me (I know I'm a perv.. sorry that I'm not sorry).
After taking a photoshoot with speedo man, me and Amin went out to snorkel. Half the beach was sand, but the other half was coral. Boy did my feet hurt from those damn sharp corals! I had to swim across basically half the beach to get away from there, but the further I went, the more murky the water got (probably from more people coming into the water as well). It was harder and harder to see the closer I got to the bridge to snorkel and it got so bad to the point where I couldn't even see where I was going. Also the current was so strong, that even with a life jacket, I was getting exhausted swimming in the water. At about noon, we headed back to the ferry dock in order to go to Palau Sapi or Sapi Island! I was crossing fingers that the water would be better to snorkel in at Sapi!
That... is another adventure and I will post that in another blog post!
