Today at work, we made a last minute decision to have a BBQ/drinking party at Kamanish's staff house. We were supposed to have this BBQ party last Saturday, but because of rig problems, everyone was unfortunately working. They don't sell alcohol in Brunei, so some of the guys went for a border run to Miri, Malaysia to go get alcohol. I made potato au gratin and green bean casserole (per Suresh's request). It was my first time making potato gratin, but it only came out OK. Everyone at the party loved it though. I put a shit ton of cheese in it haha. I made the green bean casserole with long beans instead of the french beans, which gave it kind of a different flavor... the long beans here are like three feet long and more sour in flavor, when cooked. But this green (long) bean casserole came out to be just alright...
The party was really fun. There was Asian gambling going on in one room (a bit like Roulette), BBQing outside, Wii pingpong playing/bonging beers in the living room, and just drinking/smoking everywhere haha. I have decided that Chivas Coke is my new favorite drink! It's so good!! I wish Chivas was more popular in the U.S. because I would drink it all the time, instead of Crown or Jack (EW!).
My "manager" here even came out to the party and was drinking with us. He even brought out his hookah to the party. I tried hookah for the first time! It was... alright. No buzz or high off of it, but the smoke was smooth. It was some weird flavored shisha that tasted like prunes (?). Not really a good flavor... I think I would've enjoyed it more if it was a tasty flavor... like raspberries.
The BBQ food was awesome (marinated chicken kebabs, spicy whiskey burgers, chicken wings), the drinks were delicious and strong (my fav Chivas and Coke), but most importantly, the company was awesome. Although I have only been here only about 2.5 weeks, I have gotten pretty close with the engineers out here. I really enjoy the work shop workers as well... they are all funny/goofy guys.
Working with these guys is already a good time, but playing and drinking with them is even more of a blast. I am bittersweet to be leaving this location... I am getting slowly closer with everyone and really getting to know them more, but soon enough, I will have to leave to another location. But I'm very happy that I at least got to meet these guys, and I will miss them all!
But until I leave... which is in another 1.5 weeks... I will enjoy their company at work and outside of work :)
