Work and play

Work and play

I met my housemate Goh, last night. He's a really nice guy and I think we will get along pretty well! Today was my first day at work! I was a bit nervous and a lot excited, but I met the Completions workers as well as all the engineers. They were all friendly, helpful, and all fun guys. There is a country wide break from 12PM - 2PM on Fridays in Brunei, so I had an extra long lunch back at home with my new housemate. We are able to have good conversation and I think living with Goh the next month will be fun and eventful! I hope he can handle my weirdness. The day quickly ended after 1 hour of work, tea/coffee break from 3-3:30PM, and one more hour of work until 4:30PM.

Goh had made plans to meet with a coworker named Tee in Bandar, the capital of Brunei. So we got ready and drove 1-1.5 hours to Gadong, a huge shopping area within Bandar. We ate at a "fancy" restaurant called Cheezbox and I tried my first Laksa! It was a bit strange, but pleasant at the same time (especially with my pearl milk tea! yum!). We explored the "mall" there.. it reminded me of the Valley View mall with a stands that sold anything from women's clothing to leather goods to fake designer purses and so on. It gave an "open market" feel. I will definetely have to go back and shop there.

Afterwards, we headed over to the water front, where I took a stroll past one of the most famous mosque's in Brunei, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque. It was beautiful! I daydreamed (or night dreamed?) of being Princess Jasmine from Aladdin living in this "castle" like building (haha I'm stoopit). I have never been able to experience this kind of architecture first hand, so it was really awesome seeing this in person. We then walked a long the water front and looked at the famous Water Village along the night skyline and just talked about Brunei. It was surprisingly really nice weather outside so it was awesome to just sit and relax.

I am really surprised at how much I am beginning to like this country. I am really enjoying the new sights, new foods, and new people I am meeting. I am continually trying to be open minded to new things! I miss you all, but I am having a lot of fun here! Anyway, I am exhausted. Good night !
