Changi Singapore Airport
I am on land! I landed into Singapore at about 4:45AM and it is now about 6AM here in Singapore. I have another 4-5 hour wait until (finally) my last flight to final destination, Brunei. I am so close, yet so far... I am sitting here typing this at the Singapore Airport at one of the nicest sleeping station areas I have ever been to in my life. It is so awesome here! I have never been to an airport like this before... There's shopping (clothes, cameras, luxury goods, chocolates, souvenirs, you name it!), tons of places to eat, lounges galore, shower stations, orchid and koi fish pond garden, a rooftop pool, sleeping/relaxing areas with recliner chairs with a timer that vibrates to wake you up, a butterfly green house garden, a four story swirly slide (will check that out on my flight back from the US), free tours of Singapore.. and SO MUCH MORE. I can be here for days and not be able to see everything. I was luckily able to enjoy the orchid and koi fish pond.. a nice place to sit and relax my now very swollen, smelly, and sweaty feet. But out of all the things I have mentioned, what will probably stick in my memory most.. is my first encounter with the floor toilet... It was quite frightening. I had to take a shit after all the awesome meals on my flights with Singapore Airlines.. so I headed to the restroom and right when I walked in and opened the stall door, BOOM, hole in the floor toilet... It was like a horror movie, where its like dun... DUN... DUN!!!!!!! *SCREAM* I couldn't do it.... So I had to run around the gigantic airport to find a normal toilet. I realized at that moment when I first encountered this type of toilet, how American I am.... I take standing toilets for granted. I know I will have to build up my courage and conquer these toilets soon since they will be all over Asia, but just not now. I need more mental preparation for that. It's amazing how CLEAN Singapore was though. You can't chew gum in the city because it is considered rude and dirty. The whole airpot had these little screens that had like a gradient of smileys ( :(, :|, :), :D, etc) so that you could rate how your experience has been with the service and cleanliness of it. This is customer service to the max.
I took advantage of the shopping and went to buy this special green tea in Singpore because I cannot buy them in Brunei (this added to the weight of my 2 bags and continued making my feet swollen, sweaty, and way more smelly). I don't know why, but every time I carry a big bag and be under an unfortunate circumstance like my swollen sweaty feet, my final destination is always the furthest it could possibly be. My whole trip I have had really swollen feet, swollen hands (due to carrying the carry on hand bag), and an aching back, and every time I turn a corner to get to my final destination, I see my path to there and it is endless hallways... SERIOUSLY, WHY!? NOOOOOO. At this airport, my gate terminal was the LAST possible one in the whole E wing... but luckily, there are resting/sleeping stations dispersed on the way to my gate, so I was allowed to rest my feet, take off my shoes, kick back, and relax. I stopped at this relaxing sleeping area with a jungle forest backdrop and the sounds of water trickling in a stream. Right now I am enjoying every minute of this while I type this up taking full advantage of free wifi here (awesome). But my final and last flight will be soon so I will keep you guys updated!
